About this book
Strange wreckage, a flying-disc announcement, then a weather balloon: how does the Air Force explain Roswell?
In July 1947, rancher William Brazel finds scattered material near Roswell, New Mexico. A small army air base announces a recovered flying disc, then changes its account within a day. In The Roswell Report: Case Closed, Captain James McAndrew presents the Air Force’s official answer to a story that fuels decades of argument.
Published in 1997, this follow-up to the Air Force’s 1995 study moves beyond the debris linked to Project Mogul, a secret balloon program. McAndrew examines later accounts of alien bodies, a hidden crash site and a cover-up. He seeks real events that could explain the stories, laying out the report’s sources and reasoning.

In short
In June 1947 a rancher in New Mexico finds strange wreckage in a field. In July a nearby army air base announces that it has recovered a flying disc.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A rancher finds debris and a rumor starts
The story begins in the summer of 1947 on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. A rancher named W. W. Brazel found scattered material on the land he worked. It included foil-like pieces, sticks, tape and rubber. He reported it, and the matter reached the Roswell Army Air Field, home of the 509th Bomb Group.
An early report describes the army's find as a flying disc. Newspapers across the country picked it up. The excitement lasted only a short time. Army Air Forces officials soon identify the debris as a standard radar target. The story faded, and for about thirty years almost nobody talked about it.
