De quoi parle ce livre ?
What would a queen say about her life if she could finally tell the truth? In Wisdom's Daughter, Ayesha sits in a cave in Tibet, waiting for her lover Leo to come home from the hunt, and decides to write it all down.
H. Rider Haggard wrote this as the last romance about She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed, and he presents it as a manuscript found among the papers of the scholar Holly. You follow her from a tent in Arabia to the temples of Egypt, the burning streets of Sidon and a ruined city called Kôr. You learn what the earlier books left in shadow.

A vision of two goddesses opens the tale
Ayesha begins in a dream of heaven. As a spirit she stands before Isis, who asks for news of Egypt. The temples stand empty, the spirit says, because the people now bow to Aphrodite, the Greek queen of love. The two goddesses quarrel with Egypt as the stake.
Isis leaves with a curse on Egypt. Aphrodite takes the empty throne and shows the young spirit a beautiful man, fated to be hers from the beginning.
Then the tale moves to earth. Ayesha is born in Ozal in southern Arabia, the only child of the chief Yarab. She grows up beautiful and learned, and she wants no husband, only wisdom and rule. Into her father's camp walks a ragged old man named Noot, once chief magician of Egypt and high priest of Isis. He opens his secret scrolls to her, and she joins the inner circle of Isis. Her learning cannot protect her from a love she cannot see coming.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.

Questions about La Fille de la sagesse
What is Wisdom's Daughter about?
It tells the early life of Ayesha, the queen called She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed. Born in Arabia, she becomes a priestess of Isis in Egypt, brings down Sidon and a Persian king, and meets the Greek priest Kallikrates, the man she is fated to love.
Who is Ayesha in Wisdom's Daughter?
Ayesha is the daughter of an Arab chief named Yarab. She is taught by the prophet Noot and serves Isis as prophetess. She is also known as Child of Wisdom, Isis Come to Earth, and the woman who later rules at Kôr.
Do I need to read She and Ayesha first?
No. The book is told as Ayesha's own account, and it explains her past from the start. Readers who know the earlier books will see how it fills gaps, but the story is clear on its own.
Is Wisdom's Daughter based on a true story?
It is fiction. Haggard presents it as a found manuscript, and he sets it in a real ancient world, with real places and rulers such as Nectanebes, the Persian king Ochus, and the city of Sidon, mixed with legend.
What is the main message of Wisdom's Daughter?
The book shows that great wisdom does not protect anyone from desire and pride. It sets spirit against flesh and fate against choice, and suggests that revenge and the wish to escape death carry a heavy cost.
