Chapter 16 of 17 · 12 min to read the chapter
In Chapter 16, Peter commands the ship toward home while the Darling parents wait in grief, and he secretly bars the nursery window to keep Wendy for himself. Mrs. Darling's tears make him reopen it, allowing the children to reunite with their family while he watches from outside.
What happens
- Peter commands the homeward voyage harshly, punishes Slightly, and wears clothing Wendy makes from Hook's garments.
- At home, Mrs. Darling keeps the beds ready and the window open, while Mr. Darling lives in Nana's kennel as punishment.
- Peter and Tinker Bell arrive first and bar the window so Wendy thinks her mother rejects her.
- Seeing Mrs. Darling's tears, Peter gives up his plan, opens the window, and flies away.
- Wendy, John, and Michael arrive, find their father in the kennel, and slip into their beds.
- Mrs. Darling first mistakes the children for a dream, then embraces them as Peter watches the family reunion from outside.
