Peter Pan, Chapter 15 summary

What happens

1. Peter imitates the crocodile’s ticking, boards the ship, kills Ed Teynte, and hides in the cabin.
2. Peter kills pirates sent into the cabin, while Hook struggles to control his frightened, increasingly rebellious crew.
3. Peter unlocks the boys’ manacles, frees Wendy, and takes her place beneath her cloak rather than escape.
4. Peter reveals himself, and the boys attack the scattered pirates before he claims Hook as his own opponent.
5. Peter wounds Hook and removes an explosive shell; Hook provokes Peter into kicking him before going to the crocodile.
6. With fifteen pirates dead and two escaping, Wendy puts the children to bed and comforts Peter as he cries asleep.

What to notice

Hook’s question shifts the duel toward Peter’s identity and unthinking good form. His concern with conduct becomes more important to him than survival.
