Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911) was an American author born in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Andover and later lived in Newton, Massachusetts, where she died. She wrote novels, short stories, poetry, and essays. Her novel The Gates Ajar was published in 1868. She married Herbert Dickinson Ward in 1888.
