About this book

What if the sword that stands for honor also carries the shadow of ruin?

In A Muramasa Blade, Louis Wertheimber draws you into feudal Japan, where samurai serve great lords and live by a strict code. A sword is more than a weapon here. It stands at the center of an adventure shaped by loyalty, duty and the uneasy pull of fate.

Muramasa’s name carries a dark legend: his blades are said to thirst for blood and lead their owners toward violence or ruin. Around this feared weapon, Wertheimber explores the strain between personal feeling and feudal duty. Honor demands loyalty, but feeling and conscience make that demand difficult.

The story proper begins in 1322, in the reign of the Emperor Go Daigo. For the first time in memory, Japan enjoys a general peace. The Hojo family rules from Kamakura in the name of the Shogun, and they have even beaten back the fleet sent by Kublai Khan.
