About this book
Escape the law, meet a pirate queen, and sail toward a city wiser men leave untouched.
Conan runs from the law in Messantia and takes passage aboard the merchant ship Argus. Freedom seems close, until a pirate galley appears on the water. Its commander is Bêlit, queen of the Black Coast. She wants the Cimmerian as her partner and lover, and offers him a life of raids, treasure and danger.
In Robert E. Howard’s Queen of the Black Coast, Conan and Bêlit sail the Tigress along hostile southern shores. Their bond grows amid attacks on towns and ships. But a tale of ancient riches draws Bêlit upriver, toward a silent, ruined city. Even her loyal warrior N’Gora distrusts the place they approach.

In short
Queen of the Black Coast is a sword and sorcery tale by Robert E. Howard, the Texas writer who created Conan the Cimmerian.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A fugitive runs for the sea
The story opens in a port city of the kingdom of Argos. Conan is a barbarian from the northern land of Cimmeria, and he has made a mistake that matters here. A tavern quarrel ends with a guardsman dead, and Conan refuses to say where his friend has fled. When a judge threatens him with prison, he kills the judge, and now the watch is hunting him through the streets.
He is not a wise man in the way scholars are, but he has quick instincts. He heads for the harbor, hoping to find a ship bound for another land. Howard writes him as a creature of appetite and action, a man who lives fully in each hour and does not brood over the last one.
