About this book

What happens when a land of magic loses its ruler—and the magic that could find her?

Ozma has vanished from her palace, and no one in the Emerald City knows where she is. Dorothy is determined to find her closest friend. The Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Wizard of Oz join the search, but the magical help they need is missing too.

Meanwhile, Cayke the Cookie Cook has a loss of her own: her treasured diamond-studded dishpan. With the proud, gentlemanly Frogman beside her, she sets out to recover it. L. Frank Baum places this small domestic mystery beside the search for Ozma, leading both quests through strange places with warmth and gentle humor.

What is The Lost Princess of Oz about?

It tells of the sudden disappearance of Ozma, the ruler of Oz, and of the friends who travel through the four countries of Oz to find her. A second, smaller search for a stolen dishpan runs beside it.

Do I need to read the other Oz books first?

No. The book belongs to a long series and brings back many familiar characters, but the quest is clear enough to follow on its own. Earlier books simply add some extra pleasure of recognition.

When was The Lost Princess of Oz written?

L. Frank Baum published it in 1917. It is a work of fantasy, not a true story, and it forms part of his long series of books set in the Land of Oz.
