De qué trata este libro
The Magic World is a book of twelve tales by E. Nesbit, the English writer who died in 1924. The stories begin in many places: a nursery, a seaside beach, a strict boarding school, a palace cellar, a best bedroom. Then something shifts, and a child steps into a world where cats speak, bells carry secrets and a dragon guards a park.
Nesbit tells these stories with a clear, joking voice that talks straight to you. She stops to remark on how children behave, how grown-ups misjudge them, and how hard it is to say sorry. The magic is never just decoration. It lets a boy see himself from the cat's side, lets a shy girl find courage, and lets a lonely child find someone who understands.
In the next few minutes you will meet a cruel boy who becomes a cat, two boys with a telescope that makes things grow, a boy who sleeps on an ancient stone, and a princess with a hedgehog at her side. Let us begin with the cat and the boy who thought he meant no harm.

Maurice learns life from the cat's side
The first tale, The Cat-Hood of Maurice, begins with a boy who treats the family cat as a toy. Maurice Basingstoke trims the whiskers of Lord Hugh, throws him into ponds, and ties a sardine tin to his tail. He insists he never meant to be cruel. His mother is in tears, and his father sends him off to Dr. Strongitharm's school for backward and difficult boys.
Just before the cab leaves, Maurice runs back for his stamp album and finds Lord Hugh on the schoolroom table. The cat speaks. He asks a sharp question: if cats have such an easy life, why not be one? A secret word does the work, and the storyteller will not repeat it, in case you say it by accident. Maurice thinks of his father's sorrow and agrees.
At once the table shoots up to the height of a house, and Maurice finds himself on four furry feet. Above him stands a huge version of his own face, with his own voice. Lord Hugh argues that if Maurice is now the cat, then the cat must be the boy. He sets off for the school in Maurice's checkered knickerbockers. Maurice can come back only if someone says a plain request aloud, and a cat cannot ask for it.
The days that follow are both funny and painful. The sardine tin rattles against a bedpost and fills him with a terror he has never known. His sister Mabel, whom he once called a silly kid, frees him and carries him to the kitchen. He is tipped off chairs, fed on herring heads, and chased by the butcher's dog. He even dips a paw in milk and then in spilt ink to write a plea, but all he gets is Mabel punished for the mess.
The heart of the tale is the chance to listen. As a cat, Maurice overhears his parents and learns how much they love him. He feels small inside his fur. Nesbit lets the boy's own pranks come back on him, and the joke has a kind edge. A week at the school waits for the boy who wears his face, and the story keeps that for its close.
That’s 1 of 9 key points.
