What if a school gives its wildest children trust instead of fear?
At Plumfield, a rambling country house turned school, Jo Bhaer and her husband, Professor Fritz Bhaer, make room for children with very different needs. Nat Blake arrives with his fiddle, shy and nearly alone in the world. He longs to belong, but telling the truth does not always come easily.
In Little Men, Louisa May Alcott returns to the grown-up Jo of Little Women. Gardens, quarrels, pranks, and daily responsibilities shape life at her school. Tommy Bangs dreams up trouble, Dan distrusts kindness, and Nan refuses to let others decide what girls should do. Through these small events runs a serious question: how does a child learn to care for others?

Kurz gesagt
Picture a boy standing at a gate in the spring rain with a letter in his hand and nowhere else to go. That is how Nat Blake begins.
Aus der 15-Minuten-Zusammenfassung · Kerngedanke 1
A ragged boy finds a lit house
Nat reaches Plumfield in the rain with only a letter from Mr Laurence, whom the children call Uncle Laurie. He sees lit windows and dancing shadows. He cannot believe the warmth inside is meant for him.
Inside, boys slide down the banisters and play tag on the landings. Tommy Bangs falls off the rail with a crash and greets Nat with a cheerful hullo. Daisy leads Nat by the hand to Aunt Jo. Mrs Bhaer dries his feet, wraps his throat in flannel and gives him honey syrup. At supper Nat tells of his father, the street fiddling and the cruel Nicolo who took his violin. She seems busy with the teapot, yet she hears it all.

What is Little Men about?
It follows spring through Thanksgiving at Plumfield, a school run by Jo and Professor Bhaer, where boys and a few girls learn through play, work and kindness. Nat, Dan, Demi, Daisy, Nan and Tommy each grow in their own way.
Is Little Men a sequel to Little Women?
Yes, it follows Little Women and continues the story of Jo March, now Mrs Bhaer. It shares some family members, but its focus is the children of Plumfield, so it stands well as a story on its own.
Who is who at Plumfield?
Jo and Fritz Bhaer run the school. Their sons are Rob and Teddy. Demi and Daisy are the twins, and Nat, Dan, Tommy, Nan, Franz, Emil, Stuffy, Jack and Billy are among the other children.
