About this book

What if your closest friend belongs to the people who have taken everything from you?

Amuba, a young prince of the Rebu, loses his freedom after war with Egypt. Taken captive alongside his older tutor Jethro, he must learn to live among his enemies. In G. A. Henty's The Cat of Bubastes, the road leads to the household of Ameres, a priest whose son Chebron becomes an unexpected friend.

Shared lessons, outdoor pastimes and daily talk draw Amuba and Chebron together. But this is a world where religious duties carry grave consequences. According to the story's Egyptian beliefs, cats are sacred to the goddess Pasht. The death of one sacred animal places their friendship under threat and makes loyalty a dangerous choice.
