Was geschieht

1. Mrs. Challenger condemns her husband’s violence, and he briefly places her on a high pedestal before taking Malone into his study.
2. Challenger secures Malone’s promise of secrecy and describes finding the dead American artist Maple White in an Amazon village.
3. White’s sketchbook shows unusual cliffs and a huge animal resembling a stegosaurus; Challenger also presents a large, unidentified bone.
4. Challenger recounts following native guides to the cliffs and shows damaged photographs matching White’s landscape.
5. A preserved wing fragment, compared with a reference illustration of a pterodactyl, convinces Malone that Challenger’s account is true.
6. Challenger explains his theory of the isolated plateau and invites Malone to hear his remarks at Percival Waldron’s lecture that evening.
