Worum es in diesem Buch geht
What would a gospel look like if it gave a lion, a camel and a stray cat a place in the story of Jesus? In Gospel of the Twelve, Jesus stops a hunt, lifts a beaten horse to its feet, and asks a driver why he strikes the camel he should call his brother.
The book appeared in English in 1900 as Gospel of the Holy Twelve, edited by Gideon Jasper Richard Ouseley, an Irish priest. He said it came from an ancient Aramaic manuscript, but no one has produced it, and scholars treat the work as a modern compilation. It weaves the Gospels together with added scenes and speaks of God as Father and Mother.

Punkt 1 von 10
A modern gospel presented as an ancient one
The text first appeared in 1900. Its editor, Gideon Jasper Richard Ouseley, said he had received it from a very old Aramaic manuscript kept in a Buddhist monastery in Tibet. No one has ever produced that manuscript. Scholars therefore describe the work as a compilation from the late nineteenth century.
Most verses follow Matthew, Luke and John closely, often in plain modern wording. Around them stand added scenes and new names, such as a wife for Jesus called Miriam and a cat looked after by a disciple named Lorenza. Its first readers were Christians who admired Eastern thought, cared about animals and wanted a gentler faith.
Keep two questions apart. One asks where the text came from, and the answer is the modern age. The other asks what the text says. Read it as a modern gospel with a clear vision, not as a recovered ancient witness.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.
