In Chapter 8, Helen Burns comforts Jane Eyre, and Miss Temple hears Jane’s defense before seeking confirmation from Mr. Lloyd and publicly clearing her of dishonesty. Restored to good standing, Jane studies with renewed energy, begins French and drawing, and values affection at Lowood above the comforts of Gateshead.
What happens
