Can I learn a language with the library?

Yes. You can use real books to learn a language with the library. Pick a book at your level, read side by side, and listen as you read.

Reading side by side opens with each book's text, which opens as it is ready. Until then, each book's summary is open. See How do the summaries work?

Press Learn languages in the menu to find pages for each language, with books at these levels:

  • Easy: short books in clear, everyday sentences.
  • Medium: full novels at a steady pace.
  • Challenging: long or richly written classics.

A way to practise

  1. Pick a book at your level.
  2. Read side by side to see the languages paragraph by paragraph.
  3. Listen as you read.
  4. Check instead of translating.
  5. Read a little every day.

You can tap a paragraph to see it in the other language, or press Both to show both languages at once. Read more about how side by side reading works.
