Chapter 4 von 28 · 7 Min. Lesezeit für das Kapitel

In Chapter 4, Arkady and Bazarov arrive at the family home, where warm greetings contrast with Paul Petrovitch Kirsanov’s cool reception of the guest. Supper and private conversations expose Arkady’s desire to appear grown up, Bazarov’s scorn for refined manners, and the household’s unsettled feelings.

  1. Servants receive the arrivals, and Prokofitch greets Arkady warmly before preparing supper.
  2. Paul Petrovitch Kirsanov kisses his nephew but greets Bazarov without offering his hand.
  3. At supper, Nikolai Petrovitch talks freely while Arkady tries to appear adult and drinks too much wine.
  4. Beside Arkady’s bed, Bazarov mocks Paul’s grooming and criticizes Nikolai’s poetry, practical knowledge, and nervousness.
  5. Arkady enjoys his familiar bed and remembers Egorovna before falling asleep.
  6. Nikolai and Paul remain awake with their thoughts, while Thenichka listens anxiously near a sleeping infant.
