Dracula, Chapter 4: Zusammenfassung

Chapter 4 von 27 · Lesezeit für chapter: 24 Min.

In Chapter 4, Jonathan Harker finds that the Count controls his letters, steals his belongings, and uses his clothes to impersonate him outside the castle. After discovering the Count lying in earth and failing to disable him with a shovel, Harker resolves to risk climbing farther down the castle wall rather than face the three women.

Was geschieht

  1. The Count makes Harker write misleading, future-dated letters, then intercepts his secret appeal to Mina and removes his travel supplies.
  2. Slovaks deliver wooden boxes, and Harker sees the Count leave wearing his clothes.
  3. Three women form in the moonlight, and wolves answer the Count’s call and kill a mother demanding her child.
  4. Harker climbs into the Count’s room and discovers him lying without detectable signs of life in a box of earth.
  5. Wolves prevent Harker’s departure, and he hears the Count promise the women access to him the following night.
  6. Harker finds the Count swollen with blood, wounds his forehead with a shovel, and resolves on another climb after the workers depart.

Worauf Sie achten sollten

Harker rejects passive waiting after the workers leave. His fear of the women makes the dangerous castle wall seem preferable to remaining inside.
