Bambi, Part VII summary

Part VII of 30 · 6 min to read the part

In VII, Jarvis visits the Belasco Theatre expecting to discuss his play, but spends the day waiting without seeing Mr. Belasco. The experience challenges his assumption that managers are easily reached, and his chief worry becomes the disappointment he must bring back to Bambi.

What happens

  1. Bambi prepares Jarvis for his visit, and he briefly acknowledges that she gives him this opportunity.
  2. Jarvis walks uptown imagining his mission to awaken thought, misses his turning, and reaches the theater at nine-thirty.
  3. The box-office man explains that Mr. Belasco keeps no regular hours, and Jarvis waits for the office woman.
  4. Sally offers to pass along his play, but Jarvis insists on meeting Mr. Belasco and watches other hopeful visitors arrive.
  5. Jarvis misses lunch with Bambi, returns after eating, and finally abandons his wait at five.
  6. He arranges to telephone Sally, then walks toward the club reluctantly, chiefly fearing Bambi’s disappointment.
