Chapter 24 af 28 · 20 min. til at læse kapitlet

In Chapter 24, Roswal attacks Conrade during the ceremony honoring England’s banner, and Richard accuses the Marquis of stealing it and wounding the dog. Conrade denies the charge, but the council orders combat against Richard’s chosen champion, while distrust among the Crusading leaders deepens and Saladin is proposed as a neutral host.

Hvad sker der?

  1. The Crusading leaders salute England’s banner while Richard watches the disguised Nubian and his dog for signs identifying the thief.
  2. Roswal ignores several leaders but attacks Conrade, dragging him from his horse before the Nubian restrains him.
  3. Richard accuses Conrade, protects the dog and handler, and agrees to Philip’s proposal to dismiss the troops and assemble a council.
  4. At the council, Conrade denies stealing the banner, while Richard defends the dog’s recognition and throws down his glove.
  5. Philip sets combat for the fifth day, with Richard represented by a champion, and agrees to approach Saladin about neutral ground.
  6. Conrade’s allies discuss the alliance’s divisions, and Austria’s attendants mock their master’s boasts and eagerness to return home.
