Chapter 42-resumé af The Gentleman

Hvad sker der?

1. A voice dismisses the disturbance as falling cliff material, and the boat turns back while Kit remains on the grassy ledge.
2. Kit prays in gratitude, takes comfort from a buzzing fly, and presses himself against the solid earth.
3. He surveys the sea and towering cliffs, feeling both fear of their grandeur and pride in England.
4. Below him, men strip the dead and make coarse jokes that sicken him and stir his desire for revenge.
5. A voice announces divine vengeance; Dingy Joe kneels, Fat George flees, and Red Beard fires upward.
6. The narrator presents the men’s sinful lives as present punishment and death as release into divine cleansing.
