Who Uncle Henry is
Uncle Henry lives on a Kansas farm with his wife, Aunt Em, and their niece, Dorothy Gale. He has worked the land for years, but the farm has never brought in much money. When a lender presses him to repay borrowed money, he faces losing the family's home.
What Uncle Henry wants
Uncle Henry hopes to keep his family safe, though he says little about the trouble he carries. Dorothy notices his exhaustion and asks her friend Ozma to welcome them all to Oz. Her request offers him a home beyond the debt and worry of the farm.
How Uncle Henry changes
Uncle Henry takes the move more quietly than Aunt Em, accepting the wonders as they come. Even so, the Emerald City's green splendour and the comfort of Ozma's palace astonish him. As he meets Dorothy's friends, he begins to see Oz as somewhere he might really live.
