Chapter 18 af 26 · 5 min. til at læse chapter

In Chapter 18, Telemachus leaves Sparta after Minerva warns him, reaches Ithaca safely, and finds Ulysses at the swineherd’s lodge. Once Ulysses reveals his identity, father and son share an emotional reunion and agree to conceal his return while they discover whom they can trust against the suitors.

Hvad sker der?

  1. Minerva warns Telemachus against delay, and he prepares to leave Sparta with Pisistratus.
  2. Menelaus and Helen give farewell gifts, and Helen interprets an eagle’s capture of a goose as a sign of Ulysses’ vengeance.
  3. Telemachus reaches Pylos, boards his waiting ship, and returns to Ithaca, avoiding the town because of an ambush.
  4. Eumæus welcomes Telemachus, who promises protection to the disguised Ulysses and sends the swineherd to notify Penelope.
  5. At Minerva’s command, Ulysses reveals himself; Telemachus first mistakes him for a divine visitor before their emotional reunion.
  6. Ulysses demands secrecy and plans vengeance, reassuring his doubtful son that divine allies support them.
