Chapter 4-resumé af Cleopatra

Chapter 4 af 34 · Book 1: Harmachis’s Preparation · 13 min. til at læse chapter

In Chapter 4, Harmachis travels to Annu, studies under his uncle Sepa for five years, and grows impatient to put his learning into action. Sepa declares his training complete, directs him toward initiation at Abouthis and a struggle for Egypt’s throne, and warns him against trusting his resistance to women.

Hvad sker der?

  1. Harmachis leaves Abouthis, receives Atoua’s farewell sandal, and travels downriver with priests.
  2. At Memphis, Apis kneels before Harmachis, and the watching priests bow to him because of this omen.
  3. Sepa welcomes Harmachis to Annu and teaches him religion, magic, history, languages, and government over five years.
  4. Harmachis grows weary of study and questions whether his promised royal destiny has any substance.
  5. Sepa announces that Harmachis can return to Abouthis and recounts Cleopatra’s rise through Caesar’s support.
  6. Harmachis dismisses women’s influence, but Sepa warns against pride and urges him to free Egypt from foreign rule.
