Chapter 18-resumé af Cleopatra

Chapter 18 af 34 · Book 2: The Fall of Harmachis · 15 min. til at læse chapter

In Chapter 18, Harmachis and Cleopatra open Menkau-ra’s mummy and take his hidden jewels despite a warning that selfish use brings a curse. Their search yields immense wealth, but finding their eunuch dead with a bat hanging from his chin turns their departure into a terrified escape.

Hvad sker der?

  1. Harmachis reads inscriptions permitting the treasure’s removal only to save Khem and requiring the Pharaoh’s body to be returned.
  2. Cleopatra hesitates, then renews her promise to marry Harmachis and resist Rome while insisting on seeing the emeralds.
  3. They unwrap the mummy, cut open its breast, and extract 148 emeralds and two enormous pearls.
  4. They return the body to its coffin, collect jewels and ornaments, and climb out of the burial chamber.
  5. They discover the eunuch dead, and a huge bat leaves his chin, approaches Cleopatra, and returns toward the tomb.
  6. They flee through the pyramid, lose their lamps, and reach the outside, where Cleopatra faints and Harmachis seals the entrance.
