Hvad sker der?

1. Miss Grey reaches Wellwood after a cold journey and struggles with nervousness during her introduction and lunch with Mrs. Bloomfield.
2. Mrs. Bloomfield praises her children and assigns Miss Grey responsibility for Mary Ann's clothes, washing, and dressing.
3. Tom dominates the children's introductions, quarrels with Mary Ann, and boasts about using force against his sister and a pony.
4. During a tour outside, Tom describes torturing birds and claims that his parents and Uncle Robson approve or tolerate it.
5. Miss Grey condemns his cruelty and hopes to gain his affection so she can guide his behavior.
6. After tea, Mrs. Bloomfield gives instructions and restricts discussion of the children's faults, leaving Miss Grey feeling unwelcome.
