About this book
What happens when a gentleman thief meets a detective who refuses to be charmed?
In Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin Versus Herlock Sholmes, theft becomes an art of timing, disguise, and nerve. Lupin moves through respectable French society on his own terms. But the relentless English investigator Herlock Sholmes gives him something the police cannot easily provide: an opponent who can challenge his confidence.
Two linked adventures bring their rivalry into focus. The Blonde Lady draws Sholmes into thefts and mysteries surrounding a puzzling female figure. The Jewish Lamp renews the contest over a valuable stolen object. Both men read the same clues differently, and each tries to turn the other’s certainty into a weakness.
