Che cos’è questo libro
Meet a six year old girl who cannot keep out of trouble and cannot stay unhappy about it for long. The Twin Cousins, by the nineteenth century American author Sophie May, follows Flaxie Frizzle through family visits and childhood adventures. She lives in the village of Laurel Grove with her doctor father, her mother, her grandmother and her brother and sisters. She also spends many weeks with her gentle cousin Milly at Hilltop. The tales are small, warm and teasing. The first trouble begins with a party and a message repeated much too faithfully.

A party goes wrong in the woods
Flaxie begs her aunt, Mrs. Prim, for a birthday party. Mrs. Prim is busy with a lecture on Ancient History and thinks parties are absurd, but she agrees. She sends Flaxie and shy Milly to invite ten girls.
She adds that Auntie will be thankful when the whole thing is over. When Flaxie repeats this word for word at home, Mrs. Prim is mortified and Dora the cook laughs.
Flaxie cannot bear to be laughed at. In a fit of shame she vows to run away from her own party and takes Milly along. The woods grow dark, the girls grow hungry and cross, and at last they fall asleep in each other's arms. Their punishment is the silence of a party that went on without them.

Why are Flaxie and Milly called twin cousins?

It is fiction by Sophie May, who died in 1906, written in nineteenth-century America. The book shows everyday childhood in a small town, with trains, village schools and family tea tables.
Is The Twin Cousins easy to read?
Yes, in the sense that matters: the chapters are short and each tells its own small story. The narrator speaks to you in a friendly voice, and the dialogue is lively, so it works well as a read-aloud book.
