Che cos’è questo libro
The Beasts of Tarzan is a jungle adventure by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the third book in his Tarzan series, first published in 1916. It opens in Paris and London, in the world of clubs, townhouses and telegrams, and ends up on the wild coast of Africa. Burroughs sets a loving father against an old enemy who knows exactly how to hurt him.
The enemy is Nikolas Rokoff, a Russian who has broken out of a French prison. His plan is cruel and slow. He will take Tarzan's baby son, strip the ape-man of his clothes and his name, and leave him to suffer in a place he cannot leave. Tarzan must go back to the life he gave up, and he finds that old skills and new friends among the beasts serve him well.
In this summary you will meet the people who share the chase: a wife with a mother's courage, a hulking cook with a strange phrase about the wind, and a chief who respects strength. Along the way you will hear how the story is built and what it says about civilization and the wild. First, let us look at the trap that starts everything.

A Telegram Springs the Trap
The story begins in Paris, in the apartment of Lieutenant Paul D'Arnot. He tells his friend John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, that Nikolas Rokoff has escaped from a French military prison. Tarzan sent that man there with his testimony, and he knows the Russian will want revenge. He fears less for himself than for his wife Jane and their baby son, because Rokoff would rather strike at him through the people he loves.
While the two friends talk, two dark men plot in a cottage near London. One of them is Rokoff himself, pale from long confinement. He tells his partner Alexis Paulvitch to shave his beard, so that Tarzan cannot recognize him, and to meet him on the deck of a ship called the Kincaid. They expect to have two honored guests on board who have no idea what voyage is planned for them.
Three hours later, a telegram reaches Paris. Jane writes that the baby, called Jack, is gone. A new servant helped take him from the garden. Tarzan hurries home to London and hears what the nurse saw. A houseman named Carl tricked her into leaving the child, and a closed taxi was waiting at the corner. The nurse fought on the running board, but a blow knocked her to the pavement.
Then the telephone rings. A stranger offers to lead Tarzan to his son if he comes alone to a sailors' pub in Dover and tells no one at Scotland Yard. Tarzan agrees and leaves Jane at home. In Dover a muffled guide, who is Paulvitch, leads him to a small steamer and sends him down a hatch.
The cover slams shut above him. The ship's engines begin to throb, and the ape-man is a prisoner in a cell built for him. Then a woman's scream comes from the deck above.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.
