Who Bill Sikes is

Bill Sikes belongs to the criminal world that Oliver encounters in London. He uses his strength and threats to force the boy to obey him. His fierce dog, Bull's-eye, reflects something of his own violent temper.

What Bill Sikes wants

Sikes wants Oliver to serve his crimes, regardless of the boy's fear or wishes. He and Fagin plan a burglary at a house in Chertsey and choose Oliver to help. Oliver is small enough to pass through a narrow window and open the door from inside.

When Oliver begs not to be made a thief, Sikes refuses to listen. He takes the boy along a cold road at night, carrying a pistol and making threats.

Bill Sikes and the others in the story

Nancy helps Sikes take Oliver back to Fagin while the boy is running an errand for Mr Brownlow. Yet she is troubled by her part in returning Oliver to the thieves. She quarrels with Sikes about his rough treatment of the boy, though she remains loyal to him.
