Che cos’è questo libro
Eve's Diary is a short comic work by Mark Twain, who died in 1910. It follows the first woman through her earliest days in the Garden of Eden, told in dated diary entries in her own bright and curious voice. Short excerpts from Adam's own diary are set among her entries, so that you hear both sides of the first household.
What do you get from it? A funny tale of discovery, a close look at how a friendship with a puzzling man begins, and a gentle question about why people love at all. Eve names the animals, invents fire, and tries to understand the odd creature who keeps climbing trees to escape her. Let us begin on her first day, when she is not yet sure what she is.

A new world through a very young mind
The diary opens on Saturday, when Eve is almost a whole day old. She feels like an experiment, and she decides to keep careful records because historians may want them one day. Her view of the new world is part critic and part child. She thinks the mountains look ragged, the plains look cluttered, and the stars are badly spread, with too many in one place and too few in another.
She grieves when the moon slides loose and falls out of the sky. Then she admits that her heart is ruled by a love of beauty, and that she could not be trusted with a moon found in the dark. She tries to knock down stars with a pole and then with clods of earth, but she is left-handed and cannot throw well. She cries a little, sets out with a basket for the edge of the world, and sleeps among tigers whose breath smells of strawberries.
Out of these small failures she makes her first axiom, that the scratched experiment shuns the thorn. She is proud of it, and the joke is that she is both very young and very sure of herself. Every mistake teaches her something about distance, pain or danger, and she meets each one with cheerful curiosity. This is the voice that carries the whole book.
