About this book
What does loyalty ask of you when keeping a secret means turning away from the truth?
Nothing So Hidden That It Shall Not Be Revealed is an anonymous moral tale built around an old saying: hidden things come to light. It sets loyalty, sacrifice and justice against secrecy and wrongdoing, asking how far faithfulness can reach when it pulls against the truth.
Read it as a teaching story, where people stand for qualities such as courage, greed and faithfulness. The central questions are plain but difficult: what do we owe to others, and what must we give up for justice? Comfort, safety, reputation and peace of mind all enter that reckoning.

In short
What would you do if the man who raised you asked you to keep a secret, and keeping it put a rope around your own neck? In the small German town of Verde, a watchmaker named Selming is loved by all.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A generous watchmaker takes in a boy
A watchmaker named Selming settles in Verde, a small town in southern Germany. His skill at the bench makes his name known, but his character does even more. He is honest and generous, and no needy person leaves his door without help.
Selming lends money to poor craftsmen who cannot afford workshops of their own. The townspeople assume he must be wealthy. Yet they know nothing of where he lived before, or what he did there. Neighbors probe and pry, but Selming will not talk, and his elderly housekeeper is as silent as a fish. At last the town gives up, and he lives a secluded life, working, reading, and walking beyond the town.
