According to the text, Jesus reveals to Peter a stark vision of judgment: the dead rise, Christ appears as judge, and human deeds carry consequences beyond death.

Written under Peter's name by an unknown early Christian author, this work describes heaven and hell in vivid detail. The longer Ethiopic text moves through warnings about the last days, punishments that mirror wrongdoing, and rest for the righteous. It also includes a mountain vision of Jesus shining with Moses and Elijah.

Inside this book

Questions on the mountain – Begin with the disciples' urgent questions about the signs of the end.

A stark moral reckoning – Explore how the author connects earthly wrongdoing with specific punishments in the afterlife.

Light beyond the darkness – Encounter the text's bright land of fragrant air and flowers that never fade.

Glory on the holy mountain – Follow Peter and the disciples into a vision with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah.

A disputed sacred text – Read a work once accepted by some Christians and questioned by others.

Perfect for readers of early Christianity, visions of the afterlife, Dante's roots, and texts outside the Bible who welcome stark rather than gentle reading.

Open the first page and follow Peter into this searching vision of judgment and rest.
