About this book
What is courage worth when duty pulls one way and loyalty to a friend pulls another?
The Tower of Pink Adornment, attributed to Luo Guanzhong, places heroic adventure in the imperial world of the Tang dynasty. Rank, family honour, and service to rulers shape what people owe one another. Against this background, heroes face a challenge that strength alone cannot answer: deciding where their allegiance belongs.
Loyalty, betrayal, and brotherhood give this Chinese historical novel its central tension. Public duty and personal bonds place competing demands on its heroes, making judgment as important as physical bravery. Friendship carries obligations, not just comfort. The adventure asks what it means to stand beside another person when service and honour also make their claims.

A duke is sent to the frontier
Duke Luo Zeng has two strong sons, Luo Can and Luo Kun. He is honest, and that makes him the enemy of the chancellor Shen Qian, who sells offices and bends the court to his will.
When the Tatars attack the border, Shen Qian urges the emperor to send the duke to fight them. He hopes Luo Zeng will never return. At a farewell dinner a friend offers his daughter Yushuang to Luo Kun, and the match is sealed with a pair of jade rings.
