About this book
What might a curve in your palm mean to someone who reads the hand as a map of character?
In Indian Palmistry, Mrs. J. B. Dale introduces a way of reading character and fortune through the human hand. Her practical handbook starts with the whole hand before turning to individual lines. Shape, fingers and thumb become signs to interpret, each with a place in the palmist’s method.
The book draws on the idea of an old Indian tradition of bodily signs, viewed through Western palmistry. It also offers a glimpse of an early twentieth-century parlour interest. You explore what palmists say the hand reveals, from the life line’s link with vitality to the thumb’s association with will and reason.

In short
Indian Palmistry is a compact handbook by Mrs. J. B. Dale, who died in 1921. It sets out how the art of the hand is practised in the East, as she presents it.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
Read the mounts under each finger
The book opens with a numbered reference, and its first entries are the mounts, the raised pads at the root of each finger. Jupiter sits under the forefinger, Saturn under the middle finger, the Sun, also called Apollo, under the ring finger, and Mercury under the little finger. Venus lies at the base of the thumb, and the Moon rests on the outer edge of the palm.
Each mount has its own range of meanings. A prominent Jupiter points to pride, while a small one points to idleness. A clear Saturn suggests wisdom and prudence, and a very full one suggests sadness and silence. Apollo stands for art and intelligence, Mercury for invention, wit, writing, law and journeys, the Moon for imagination, Venus for love of beauty, and Mars for courage.

What is Indian Palmistry about?
It is a handbook on reading destiny from the hand. It describes the mounts, lines, fingers, nails and many small marks, and says what each is thought to show about character, health, wealth, love and travel.
Who wrote Indian Palmistry?
Mrs. J. B. Dale wrote it. She died in 1921. The book gathers the rules of eastern palmistry into a reference with numbered entries, short summaries and lists of signs, written in a clear and direct style.
Which hand does Indian palmistry read?
The book gives the general rule of the East. For a man the book points to his right hand, and for a woman to her left. It then says to favor whichever hand shows the signs and lines most clearly.
