They travel west, survive several attacks, and fall into captivity; when the Witch steals a silver shoe, Dorothy throws water over her and unknowingly melts her, freeing herself and the Lion.
What happens
- In the Emerald City, Oz receives each traveler separately, takes four different forms, and makes each requested gift depend on the Witch’s death.
- The friends head west; the Tin Woodman kills attacking wolves, the Scarecrow kills crows, and together they defeat bees before the Lion frightens Winkies.
- The Witch uses her final command over the Winged Monkeys, who wreck the Woodman, empty the Scarecrow, and capture the others.
- Protected by the kiss on her forehead, Dorothy becomes a kitchen servant and secretly feeds the imprisoned Lion.
- The Witch tricks Dorothy into losing one silver shoe, then takes it and refuses to return it.
- Angry Dorothy throws water over the Witch, melts her unknowingly, retrieves her shoe, and tells the Lion they are free.
