Chapter 14 de 28 · 13 min pour lire le chapitre

In Chapter 14, Sir Kenneth refuses the physician’s offer of refuge with Saladin after losing the English banner, although the physician treats his wounded dog and offers protection from Richard’s anger. News of a proposed marriage between Saladin and Lady Edith of Plantagenet gives Kenneth a reason to live, and he heads toward Richard’s pavilion.

Ce qui se passe

  1. Sir Kenneth finds no trace of the banner’s attackers and weeps over the wounded Roswal.
  2. The Arabian physician removes the weapon fragment, treats Roswal, and sends him to his tent.
  3. Kenneth admits his failure as guardian, and the physician urges him to seek refuge with Saladin.
  4. The physician describes proposed peace terms, including a marriage between Saladin and Lady Edith of Plantagenet.
  5. Kenneth rejects both the marriage proposal and escape, choosing to face punishment.
  6. After the physician leaves, Kenneth suspects the hermit’s involvement and walks toward Richard’s pavilion.

Les points à retenir

Kenneth measures worth through faithful service rather than human rank. His judgment of Roswal also expresses his own shame.
