De quoi parle ce livre ?

What would you risk to see a city that shines like silver from far away? In this adventure novel, two American schoolboys on a pleasure cruise end up lost in the jungles of Yucatan. A stranger there tells them such a city exists and asks them to help him reach it.

James Otis wrote The Search for the Silver City for young readers, building it on real travel accounts of Central America. From one rumor he makes a tale of storms, fire at sea, caves, poisoned arrows and a climb over mountains. You follow Teddy Wright, Neal Emery and a cheerful engineer named Jake.

Point clé 1 sur 11

A lonely boy accepts a yacht cruise

Teddy Wright is seventeen and sulking. His summer camping plan has fallen through because his friend is ill. He stays in a nearly empty house out of pure spite.

Then a letter comes from Neal Emery, a student at the same military school. Neal's father has just bought a steam yacht called the Sea Dream and plans a cruise of three or four weeks. Teddy gets permission and takes the first train in the morning.

Aboard, the boys meet Jake Foster, a stout, cheerful engineer. Teddy gets seasick off Martha's Vineyard and swears he will go home. After four days Jake says he has found his sea legs.

Teddy is impulsive and a little spoiled, but he is willing to learn. Small misfortunes can lead to the biggest adventures.

That’s 1 of 11 key points.
