In Chapter 4, Lizaveta Nikolaevna proposes a publishing partnership to Shatov, but he refuses after questions about his neighbor and a printing press. She privately asks Anton Lavrentyevitch to arrange a meeting with Lebyadkin’s sister, and his visit to Shatov brings an account of America and a warning about the sister’s treatment.
