The Lost Books of the Bible, Part 6, Chapter V summary

Part 6, Chapter V of 170 · 6 min to read the chapter

In Chapter V, Nicodemus urges Pilate to release Jesus, and witnesses describe cures, miracles, and power over spirits as evidence that his works come from God. Opponents challenge the testimony, but a report that Jesus raises Lazarus makes Pilate tremble and question the shedding of innocent blood.

What happens

  1. Nicodemus defends Jesus by comparing his miracles with those of Moses and accepting the opponents' wish that he share Christ's lot.
  2. A healed man describes his recovery at the pool, and opponents emphasize that the cure occurs on the Sabbath.
  3. Witnesses describe restored sight, cured leprosy, and a straightened body; Veronica reports stopped bleeding, but opponents reject female testimony.
  4. Further witnesses recount water becoming wine, spirits obeying Jesus, and widespread healing.
  5. Centurio and a nobleman describe cures accomplished without Jesus visiting the sick.
  6. After testimony about Lazarus returning from death, Pilate trembles and challenges the crowd's wish to shed innocent blood.
