De quoi parle ce livre ?
Picture a breakfast table in Maryland on a sultry September morning. A snowy wolfhound waits on the porch, a Persian cat is sent to the servants' quarters, and the fifteen-year-old hostess smiles through it all. That is how Peggy Stewart at School begins.
Gabrielle E. Jackson wrote this novel for girls about Peggy and her friends near the Naval Academy at Annapolis. Peggy lives at Severndale, an old estate on the Severn River, while her father, Captain Neil Stewart, is mostly at sea.

A guest arrives with plans for Severndale
The story opens during a September heat wave at Severndale. Jerome, the white-haired butler, grumbles that the guest upstairs is not the right person to guide Peggy. Mammy Lucy agrees, because the guest keeps the whole house waiting.
Katherine Stewart is the widow of Captain Stewart's brother. She won an invitation for September, but she plans to stay for good and run the house. She thinks Peggy, at fifteen, is a child who does not count.
The first clash comes over the animals. Her poodle, Toinette, charges Peggy's cat, Sultana, and gets a slap on the nose. Tzaritza the wolfhound carries the yelping poodle across the room and sets her down unharmed. Mrs. Stewart screams that the hound is a brute. Peggy answers with calm manners, sends the cat to Mammy's quarters and tells Tzaritza to guard the porch. Old Jerome is not fooled by the sweet talk that follows.
A calm answer is not a weak answer.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.
