Lady Chatterley's Lover, Chapter 1 summary

Chapter 1 of 19 · 14 min to read the chapter

In Chapter 1, Constance Chatterley and Clifford Chatterley begin life at Wragby after his war injuries leave him permanently paralyzed and unable to have children. Their family histories and earlier relationships show how intellectual freedom, inherited status, and the need for emotional security shape a marriage that gives little importance to sex.
