De quoi parle ce livre ?
Kate Coventry would rather ride than sew. In this comic Victorian novel by G. J. Whyte-Melville, Kate tells her own story with a sharp tongue and a twinkle. Her days are filled with races, balls, picnics, a gloomy country house and a thrilling day in the hunting field. Then a handsome cavalry man begins to appear at the rails of Hyde Park with a cigar, and one plain question follows her everywhere. Which man does she want, and does she know?

Kate wins her day at Ascot
The story opens on a wet June morning in London. Aunt Deborah announces that the trip to Ascot must be given up, but Kate has already ordered a peach-colored mantle and a bonnet. She holds back her tears and plays a clever game, because she knows that wanting something too eagerly never works.
Aunt Deborah lectures Kate daily about propriety, though she allows afternoon rides with John. Cousin John Jones, square-built and good-humored, can talk her round, thanks to an old disappointment in her own youth.
The day at Ascot is a delight. Kate cheers a horse called Colonist to victory, then hears John praise his hero, the dashing officer Frank Lovell. She decides she does not like what she hears, and that verdict does not last.
That’s 1 of 9 key points.
