A Cimmerian climbs the cliffs of Alkmeenon
The story opens with a man on a rock wall. Cliffs rise sheer from the jungle, glinting blue and crimson in the dawn, and a half-naked climber is already halfway up.
On the way, he passes a tiny cave where a shriveled mummy sits with a roll of old parchment tucked between its arms. He takes the roll and goes on. At the top, he stares down into a huge bowl of forest ringed by unbroken cliffs. Among the treetops, he spots the glint of marble domes. The legend is true, and below him lies the deserted palace of Alkmeenon.
The man is Conan. He told the court he was a soldier looking for work. In truth he wanted a reason to stay until he could find where the gems lie hidden. Then Thutmekri arrives, a Stygian rogue who offers to help Keshan crush its enemy Punt. In return he asks for a few of the Teeth as a pledge. If he wins the king's ear, Conan will be driven out. So Conan rides through the night after a lesser priest lets slip a clue.
Conan climbs where others cannot, and that skill drives the whole adventure.
That’s 1 of 9 key points.
