Aesop's Fables, Part 96 summary

Part 96 of 284 · 1 min to read the part

In The Mice and the Weasels, the Mice choose generals to stop their repeated defeats, but their new leaders wear helmets with large straw plumes. When the Mice lose again, these marks of rank prevent the generals from entering their holes, leaving them easy for their pursuers to catch.

What happens

  1. The Weasels repeatedly defeat the Mice, killing and eating many of them.
  2. An old Mouse blames their losses on a lack of generals, so the Mice choose their biggest members as leaders.
  3. The leaders wear helmets with large straw plumes to distinguish themselves from ordinary soldiers.
  4. After another defeat, the other Mice escape into their holes, but the leaders cannot fit inside and are caught.
