About this book
On the Yorkshire moors, love binds two people together—and threatens everyone within their reach.
In Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, the orphaned Heathcliff grows up in the Earnshaw household, fiercely attached to Catherine Earnshaw. Wild and proud, Catherine feels the pull of both their bond and the comfort Edgar Linton offers. Around them, resentment and social rank turn love into a struggle over belonging, dignity, and power.
The story begins with Lockwood, a city gentleman who rents Thrushcross Grange and meets his strange landlord. Housekeeper Nelly Dean draws him into the families’ tangled past. Through her account, two houses become the centre of a feud that reaches from parents to children, while the windswept moors give every longing and grievance a harsh, haunting home.

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A stranger arrives at a hostile house
In 1801, Lockwood rents Thrushcross Grange and calls on his landlord, Mr Heathcliff, at the farmhouse called Wuthering Heights. The welcome is cold. Heathcliff is gruff, the dogs are fierce, and the household laughs at Lockwood or snaps at him.
A snowstorm forces him to stay the night. In an old box bed he finds the name Catherine scratched on the ledge in three forms, Earnshaw, Heathcliff and Linton. Who was she?
