About this book
What if the jungle gives way to a hidden world where ancient Rome still rules daily life?
In Tarzan and the Lost Empire, Edgar Rice Burroughs sends his jungle hero into an isolated world in the heart of Africa. Here, the ancient Roman past survives into the modern age. Tarzan leaves familiar ground behind and faces a place where strength and survival meet the law of empire.
An English lord raised by apes, Tarzan combines animal strength with an educated mind. He lives by instinct and skill, but this hidden society presents another way of life. Short chapters and moments of danger drive the adventure forward, as the freedom of the wild meets a world shaped by ancient Rome.

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A worried father asks the ape-man for help
Tarzan and his Waziri warriors are camped in the jungle, hunting a cattle-killing lion. Nkima hears strangers coming and grows excited, sure that everything wants to eat him.
The visitor is Doctor von Harben, a missionary who has marched far to find the ape-man. His only son, Erich, is a scholar of ancient languages and a fine climber. Months ago he set out for the Wiramwazi Mountains to trace the legend of a Lost Tribe of white people. Some of his porters have crept home and avoid all questions. Local people believe the mountains hold bloodthirsty ghosts.
