About this book
What if the people poised to inherit the world have no pity—and no need for truth?
Arthur Granger is a writer unsure of himself and his work. Then he meets a calm young woman who claims to come from the Fourth Dimension. Her people, the Dimensionists, intend to inherit the earth. Their confidence carries a threat: they have neither pity nor scruples.
In The Inheritors, Joseph Conrad and Ford Madox Ford draw Granger into politics and the press, where influence counts for more than truth. Ambitious men believe they steer events while others quietly steer them. Fantasy meets sharp satire, asking what becomes of human life when the hunger for power leaves no room for feeling.

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A stranger on the road claims the future
The story is told by Arthur Granger, a writer who has hidden in the countryside, ill and proud, after years of failure. At Canterbury he meets a fair young woman who smiles at the cathedral guide with cool contempt. She asks to walk with him toward Dover, and he agrees, curious and a little annoyed.
She says she lives in the Fourth Dimension. On the hill above the city she makes him see the cathedral tower tilt away into endless space. Then she describes the Dimensionists, a race with no ideals, no pity and no fear of pain. She says humanity's ancestors were driven out of the Fourth Dimension and spread across the earth. Now her own people are being forced out and will follow them.
