What happens when a prophet’s warning meets a hostile throne—and his vision reaches beyond the world?
The Ascension of Isaiah joins a story of persecution to a vision of heaven. In its earthly account, Isaiah warns that the reign after Hezekiah will bring corruption and danger. Hezekiah’s son Manasseh represents a turn toward hostility, placing the prophet’s teaching and steadfast faith under threat.
In the visionary account, an angel guides Isaiah through seven heavens, each more glorious than the last. According to the text, he witnesses heavenly worship and receives visions of Christ’s descent into the human world. Earthly rulers, hostile spirits, and warnings about failing faith connect these heavenly scenes to religious communities under pressure.
