Sobre este libro
What if the path to greatness runs through wild coasts and humble farms, rather than palaces?
In The Path of the King, John Buchan follows one bloodline through centuries of danger and change. Each chapter opens a separate tale, with its own people and its own risks. The early stories lead into a rough northern world of sea-raiders, wild coasts and small bands of fighting men.
As kingdoms form, faith and war shape the lives of those who carry the line forward. Later, revolt and the pull of new lands send families across oceans. Sailors, soldiers, farmers and wanderers carry a heritage they rarely understand, while Buchan asks where courage, vision and the qualities of leadership take root.

A Viking boy walks into the dark
The first tale is set in a hall at Hightown, beneath a mountain called Sunfell. A small boy named Biorn invents a game for winter nights. He creeps toward a thin line of firelight on the floor, steps into the deeper dark beyond it, then runs back to bed. A lame, clever man called Leif the Outborn says that life is a passage from darkness to darkness with a brief light between.
Biorn is the son of King Thorwald, called Ironbeard. When famine strikes and the cattle die, the old remedy is a raid on Frankland. An old seer named Katla says that Biorn's thread runs westward and that his descendants will win great kingdoms beyond the sea.

What is The Path of the King about?
It follows a line of descendants from a Viking boy to Abraham Lincoln. Each chapter shows one heir, with a gold ring passing between them, as the book asks whether hidden royal blood can carry a destiny across centuries.
Who wrote The Path of the King and when?
John Buchan, the Scottish author of The Thirty-Nine Steps, wrote it. It was published in 1921 as a series of linked tales, built around a campfire conversation described in the prologue.
What does the gold ring mean in The Path of the King?
The ring is the badge of the royal line. It passes from hand to hand through the generations, and it ties together people who do not know each other, reminding the reader that the line continues.
