About this book
What if a kingdom’s greatest danger is its certainty that nothing can bring it down?
In The Lost Continent, C. J. Cutcliffe Hyne turns the Greek legend of Atlantis into an adventure of court intrigue, war and sorcery. Deucalion, a man of rank, tells what he sees from within this proud island realm. His account brings you close to its rulers and priests as forces gather against the world they know.
At the heart of the struggle lies a question: who should rule, and how? Kings, priests and nobles belong to an old order that ambition puts under strain. Around them stands a civilization confident in its wealth, its skill and its gods. Hyne explores how that confidence can become blindness, giving the clash over power a deeper sense of peril.

From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A faithful viceroy is recalled from Yucatan
The story begins in a gilded council chamber in Yucatan. Deucalion, a priest and soldier, has ruled this colony of Atlantis for twenty years. Now he must walk behind his friend Tatho, who takes the snake-throne in his place. The new Empress, Phorenice, has recalled him, and he does not know why.
Alone with Tatho inside the pyramid, he finally hears the truth about home. Phorenice is the daughter of a swineherd, adopted by a governor named Zaemon. She led an army before she was grown, invented fire-tubes that kill from a distance, and crushed a force eight times the size of her own. Tatho himself was beaten by her, and he now serves her and loves her.
